My December Favorites

It feels like a lifetime has passed since I posted my November Favorites list. With Christmas January 1 coming NEXT WEEK and so much still to do before kicking off the New Year, what better time than to post my December Favorites list?

1. Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Restorative Night Cream

Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Facial Care Starter Kit

This PNW weather (we got snow!) is leaving my skin dry and uneven. Normally, I never treat my skin to any kind of pampering (I’m sure I’ll pay for that in the near future!) but this stuff makes me look forward to bedtime. It has a light fragrance that I just love, and my face feels soft and smooth in the morning. I also love that it is in the Absolutely Ageless line. I am 37 and have yet to see a fine line or a gray hair, but this product makes me feel like I won’t see one in the very near future! (I always have high hopes!)

2. Dental Guard mouth guards

I deal with extreme bruxism (teeth grinding) and it has resulted in multiple problems over the years, namely the loss of the enamel on most of my teeth (the part that makes your teeth look white- I didn’t know until a few weeks ago that the under-layer, the dentin, is actually yellow!) and well, most of the height of my teeth! I’m soon to be facing a full set of caps, but no matter what I do, I can’t stop grinding or clenching my jaw at night. My dentist, being a good dentist, set me up with an indestructible bite guard to the tune of $350, but a year later, I found this! $20 for TWO SETS? YES PLEASE! They were simple to customize, and if you make a mistake, the company’s customer service is so awesome, they’ll send you a replacement set to try again! Even better, they can ALSO BE USED as mouth guards in sports, OR as whitening trays for at-home whitening kits!  Best $20 I’ve ever spent… They’re more comfortable than my professionally made appliance (since they are silicone) and I can wear both the top and bottom units or either one depending on how I feel that night.

3. Homemade malted hot cocoa mix (recipe for malted cocoa mix HERE)

Homemade Malted Hot Cocoa Mix (Only 6 Ingredients!)   Anyone that is close to me KNOWS I’m a sucker for Starbucks (AKA Five-bucks) peppermint hot cocoa or their regular hot cocoa in the winter! But $5 sure doesn’t go as far as it used to, so I came up with this recipe to ‘tide me over’. It’s a yummy, creamy, malted substitute that costs me less than $0.40 a serving to make, and the mix couldn’t be simpler! Try it yourself, you might find a new favorite (and a better use for that remaining $4.60 each day/week!)

4. Foam back/leg roller Amazon

This HD Foam Roller has been my LIFESAVER!!  I’m up late at night sitting at a computer, up even later with a 1-year-old who doesn’t sleep solidly through the night, and then up early with an active 4-year-old. Add to that housework, yard work, heavy lifting, carrying the 1-year-old (an added 20lbs)  and my back is a PRETZEL by the end of every day. This roller has been the solution to a lot of sleepless nights laying on heating pads, unable to move. It is ultra firm and helps to massage all of my muscles. It even works to loosen my calves and hamstrings! I’ll never go without one of these again. The husband is GREAT at back massages, but I feel so bad putting him to work all the time, I absolutely use this to fill in! My back has never loved me so much…

5. Oxo dish soap brush

My hands take a serious beating every winter. If I’m not working on the blog, I’m cleaning or washing something. I deal with torn cuticles, dry skin, patchy spots, and cracked knuckles.  And I’m the worst when it comes to remembering to use moisturizer or gloves to combat the problem, so I look for other options. This little guy came to me last year as a stocking stuffer (GREAT IDEA!) from my mother, and I have DEFINITELY put it to good use! It not only easily removes food debris from dishes, it helps to remove oil spots from clothing (the dish soap and brushing action takes care of oil with ease!), dispenses just the right amount of soap when I need it, and is easy to refill. Refill brushes are available and very affordable. It has helped me keep my hands out of the soap and water, and gave them time to heal!

6. Erin Condren 2018 Planner and address book

Life planner 2018

I have always loved pen-to-paper type planning. Sure, I can enter some things into my iPhone to remind myself of projects coming up, but I only ever remember what I ACTUALLY write down on paper. That’s where this planner comes in. If you’re a mentally disorganized person like I am, this planner will help clear things up. Ms. Condren has worked HARD to create a planner for everyone (teacher, student, or every day) and her products are beautifully assembled and packaged with lots of goodies with each order. You choose the layout and timeframe you want your planner to be and they make it for you! You have the option to add items like stickers, positivity cards, pens, tabs, markers and perpetual calendars to your order, and with her rewards system, each order comes with a code for a discount on your next order! The more orders you place, the bigger the discount becomes!

7. BEST SELF Goal journal

I am a planner. I’m hooked on planning. I’m hooked on lists. I’m hooked on paper organizers (see #6) and I am hooked on these Best Self Journals!  These journals give you 13 weeks of goal-planning space (approximately 3 months) which helps to cut procrastination levels, and space to reflect on your wins for each day along the way (to keep you going). Inspirational quotes are scattered throughout the journal to motivate you to reach your goals, and the compactness of this journal means you can carry it almost everywhere! Also, if you have a student, check out the Graduate Journal. AND, if you bullet journal or like to doodle, take a look at the Sidekick!  **If you want to try this out before purchasing, the people over at Best Self will send you a PDF copy of the Best Self Journal to print out and try for free! **

8. Aquaphor Healing Ointment for Baby

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Winter weather and I do not mix. It turns out that my kids share in my suffering, so we buy this on a regular basis to keep up withall the dryness! It’s preservative and fragrance free and is a good all around ointment to have on hand for minor cuts and burns, chapping and rashes. I don’t think I’ll ever be without this stuff again!

This months list focused heavier on personal care, organization, and planning than my previous posts. It’s important that we stop to care for ourselves during the busy seasons so that we can then care for others! Pamper yourselves for a blessed holiday well spent with family and friends. You deserve it!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!!
